The Executive Director and Founder, Mr. Godfrey White, is a native from the “Bayou Country” by way of New Iberia, Louisiana. Mr. White has resided in Oakland, California since 1973 until leaving Oakland in 2003 to venture off to assist, develop & implement an effective “Get Out To Vote” Program on behalf of Kathleen Blanco, then Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana.
After returning back to Oakland following leading a successful campaign that resulted in the election of Governor Kathleen Blanco as the first female Governor of the State of Louisiana. Governor Blanco’s term began in January of 2004 and at that time, Mr. Godfrey White, was appointed as the Executive Director of Elderly Affairs – Office of the Governor. He became aware of the serious challenges seniors experienced in Louisiana and throughout the country.
In that era, Mr. White developed a passion to help mitigate the challenges wherever possible. Governor Kathleen Blanco was very committed in supporting the Office of Elderly Affairs throughout her tenure. He is also adamant about educating our young people, especially in the early years of their educational development. White back in South Louisiana, Mr. White was also able to enjoy, in general, the unique cultural cuisine and the outstanding entertainment. This challenge motivated him, along with outstanding volunteers to design, develop and implement programs that will support young people and seniors in our communities.
As a result of the commitment of Mr. Godfrey White and a number of committed volunteers, “The Bayou Meets The Bay Classic Foundation“is currently functioning and is helping to make a positive impact on our communities.
The outstanding events that are implemented to support the programs of “The Bayou Meets The Bay Classic Foundation” brings a taste from The Bayou to the Bay.
